[THE INVESTOR] The organic light-emitting diode market for lighting is expected to surge to US$1.6 billion by 2020, with Korea’s LG Display dominating a whopping 53 percent of the market share.

According to market research firm UBI Research on Aug. 8, the OLED light market will grow from this year’s US$114 million to US$1.6 billion by 2020.

Amid toughened regulations on conventional incandescent bulbs around the world, OLED lights boast higher energy efficiency while increasingly being adopted across industries such as interior design, automotive and medicine.

LG Display, the market leader, is estimated to see US$848 million sales by 2020.

The company has operated the OLED light business since it was transferred from LG Chem early this year. In March, the company announced its plan to produce an annual 15,000 OLED light panels.
