Asiana Airlines, the nation’s second-largest flag carrier, established a sister relationship with Yucai Primary School in Guilin, China, on Tuesday, the company announced.
Asiana supplied the school with 11 computers, four sets of multipurpose educational equipment, two pianos and 500 books, in addition to providing a special vocational lecture for students who dream of becoming flight attendants, the company stated.
At the ceremony were Asiana Airlines CEO Yoon Young-doo, Guilin deputy mayor Wu Jiashi and related officials of the city government.
As a result, the airline, together with Korea International Cooperation Agency, complete another successful year of its social contribution project in China, which began in 2012.
The Beautiful Classroom Project aims to form seven sisterhood ties each year with either primary or middle schools ― one for each of the 21 Asiana branches across China ― over three years, according to the company.
So far the air carrier has aided 14 schools with 535 computers and 11,500 books, along with school supplies and study materials.
“By sponsoring Guilin’s students in need, I am glad to have provided the foundation for talented individuals while simultaneously carrying out our social responsibilities as a global airline,” said CEO Yoon. “Henceforth, we will continue our efforts to raise Korea’s dignity and to form a better society through steady social contributions.”
