중국 최대 통신장비업체 화웨이가 서울시 지하철의 정보통신 인프라 고도화를 위한 광통신망 개량사업에 참여하게 됐다.3일 통신장비 업계에 따르면 화웨이 통신장비를 취급하는 현대정보기술이 지난 20일 마감한 서울메트로의 내부 광시스템 개량 사업을 위한 장비 구매 입찰에 약 69억7천만원의 낙찰가로 장비납품 계약을 따냈다. 서울시 교통망의 중추적인 역할을 담당하는 지하철 주요 노선을 통제하는 핵심 통신장비에 대한 입찰이었기 때문에 SK텔레콤, LG유플러스 등 국내 주요 통신사들도 참여한 것으로 전해진다. 하지만 SKT, LG유플러스 등은 유럽산 장비를 취급하는 탓에 중국산 화웨이 장비의 가격경쟁력에 밀려 모두 고배를 마셨다. 현대정보기술이 납품할 장비에는 통신장비의 핵심인 MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching) 백본 장비 30여대와 MPLS 역사용 장비 260여대 및 기타 시리얼통신장비 260여대로 추정된다. 이 장비들은 서울시 지하철 노선 중 1~4호선에 해당하는

한국전자통신연구원(ETRI)이 4년 전 화웨이를 상대로 미국에서 제기한 특허침해 소송이 난항을 겪고 있다.22일 업계 주요 관계자들에 따르면, 미 캘리포니아 남부지구 연방지방법원은 지난 4월 11일 한국의 미국특허 전문회사 SPH아메리카(이하 SPH)가 중국 최대 스마트폰 및 통신장비 제조사 화웨이를 상대로 제기한 특허침해 소송을 각하(Dismiss)했다. SPH는 2006년 ETRI가 보유한 특허에 관한 모든 권리를 부여 받은 특허전문 회사다.
