Firefighters continued to battle a large fire at a hazardous materials warehouse in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, on Tuesday, hours after it broke out shortly after midnight. No injuries or deaths had been reported as of Tuesday morning.
The fire began around midnight at a one-story warehouse in Cheongbuk-eup that was believed to contain about 1.91 million liters of flammable materials.
Fire officials raised the emergency response to Level 2 and issued a national firefighting mobilization order as the flames threatened to spread. The response level was lowered to Level 1 around 5:20 a.m., while the national mobilization order remained in place.
Officials said the fire had been contained and that there was no further spread of the flames. A total of 95 vehicles and 238 firefighters were deployed, including crews and equipment from neighboring provinces.
The warehouse was used to store about 100 types of hazardous materials, including flammable liquids. Authorities said they would investigate the cause of the fire after it was fully extinguished.
