According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the number of medical tourists visiting Seoul in 2024 approached 1 million. In total, 1,170,467 people from 202 countries visited South Korea for medical services last year, with 999,642 of them coming to the capital, the city said, citing data from the central government.

The number of medical tourists to Seoul more than doubled from 473,340 in 2023 and increased more than threefold compared to the prepandemic figure of 320,284 in 2019.
서울을 방문한 의료 관광객 수는 2023년 473,340명에서 두 배 이상 늘었으며, 팬데믹 이전인 2019년320,284명과 비교하면 세 배 이상 증가했다.
Last year, foreign nationals paid a total of 1.4 trillion won ($1 billion) in medical expenses using credit cards issued outside Korea, with 85.7 percent (1.2 trillion won) spent in Seoul.
지난해 외국인들은 한국에서 발급된 것이 아닌 해외 신용카드를 통해 총 1조4천억 원(약 10억 달러)의 의료비를 지불했으며, 이 가운데 85.7%에 해당하는 1조2천억 원이 서울에서 사용됐다.
By medical service, plastic surgery was the most popular, attracting around 666,000 foreign patients, followed by dermatology with 130,000 and physician treatments with 81,000.
의료 서비스별로는 성형외과가 가장 인기를 끌어 약 66만6천 명의 외국인 환자를 유치했으며, 그 뒤를 이어 피부과 13만 명, 내과 진료 8만1천 명 순이었다.
