The Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate Rep. Lee Jae-myung is embracing red, the color of the rival People Power Party, in his campaign branding in the spirit of uniting the country.

Lee's campaign office said Friday that a splash of red would be incorporated into Lee's posters and other promotional items to stress his promise to be "a president for all Koreans." The office added that the mix of blue and red also incorporates the colors of the Korean flag.

Lee would be a leader who "brings the country together" and "ends division in the increasingly polarized country," his campaign office said.

Lee had said the Democratic Party was a "party of centrist conservatism" in the run-up to the primary that wrapped up in April, in an apparent bid to court right-of-center voters.

In the promotional materials unveiled on Friday, Lee was portrayed as a leader who would help Korea heal from the "ongoing consequences of the unlawful imposition of martial law" by former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Lee is keeping the slogan from his primary campaign, which is "The real Korea begins now."

Lee, who won the primary on April 26, is slated to register with the National Election Commission as the Democratic Party's official candidate on Saturday.

The official presidential campaign commences May 12, and will run for 22 days until Election Day on June 3. During the pre-campaign period, candidates are barred under election law from certain activities in promoting themselves, such as using microphones at rallies.
