Police find no evidence of drug use or homicide

A 29-year-old man from Bangladesh was found dead on a street in Hongdae, a nightlife hotspot in northeastern Seoul, last weekend, police said Friday.
The Bangladeshi national reportedly collapsed while dancing at a club in the Hongdae area and was later found lying unconscious on a nearby street at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Mapo Police Station.
Police and paramedics arrived at the scene after receiving a report that a foreign national had suddenly lost consciousness at a club, and transported him to a hospital, but the man was already in cardiac arrest.
“Passers-by attempted CPR for over 10 minutes before paramedics arrived. He was taken to the hospital with an oxygen mask on,” a witness said.
The man was identified as a migrant worker employed at a manufacturing company, who came to Korea about two years ago on a work visa, officials said.
He tested negative for drugs and alcohol at the time he was found, and there is no evidence pointing to murder so far, they added.
With the consent of the bereaved family, police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death and plan to investigate the circumstances in detail based on the results.
His body will be repatriated after the autopsy, with no funeral arrangements planned in Korea, according to the Bangladeshi Embassy in Seoul.
