Volkswagen is doubling down on its electric mobility strategy in Korea, spotlighting two key models — the ID.4 and the soon-to-launch ID.5. After topping electric vehicle sales in Europe during the first quarter of 2025, the brand is looking to carry that momentum into the Korean market.

According to JATO Dynamics, Volkswagen sold over 25,000 EVs in Europe in March alone, overtaking Tesla to become the region’s top EV brand. That success has laid the groundwork for a bigger push in Korea, where the ID.4 is already making waves.

Now, the coupe-style ID.5 is set to join the lineup at the end of April. With a sporty silhouette and improved aerodynamics (its drag coefficient is just 0.26), it delivers up to 286 horsepower and 55.6 kilogram-meters of torque. The ID.5 also offers generous cargo space of up to 1,561 liters, boasts a certified range of 434 kilometers per charge — 460 km in the city and 402 km on the highway — and an official energy efficiency rating of 5.0 km per kilowatt-hour.

The model also features a large, intuitive infotainment system with voice assistant “IDA,” alongside advanced safety tech such as IQ.Drive and IQ.Light LED Matrix Headlamps. These smart systems ensure a safer, more comfortable drive, while offering EV drivers a refined, high-tech option.

The ID.4, which gained popularity in Korea after its launch in 2022, continues to attract customers with its smooth driving experience, excellent use of space and competitive pricing. The 2025 model features a high-efficiency drive system identical to that of the ID.5, delivering both high performance and fuel efficiency. The ID.4 Pro model offers a driving range of 424 km per charge and supports rapid charging for added convenience.

Price competitiveness is also a major draw. With full government subsidies applied, the ID.4 Pro Lite starts at 38.87 million won ($27,200), while the Pro model starts at 44.61 million won. Families with two or more children can also receive additional incentives.

Volkswagen’s strategy of “electric mobility for everyone” is finding traction in Korea. With reliable brand recognition, competitive specs and affordable pricing, the ID.4 and ID.5 are ready to make their mark in 2025.
