Global TV market grew 3% on-year, with total shipments at 288.3 million units
Samsung Electronics retained its top position in the global TV market for 19 consecutive years in 2024, as the global market grew 3 percent in shipment volume on-year. LG Electronics also ranked first in the premium organic light-emitting diodes TV segment for 12 straight years in the same year.
According to market tracker Omdia, Samsung Electronics secured a 28.3 percent market share in terms of sales in the global TV market in 2024, maintaining the top spot since 2006.
Samsung attributed its strong leadership to its sales strategy focusing on the premium TV segment, including Neo QLED, OLED and large-size screens.
"We will continue to enhance consumers' lives by driving innovation with a diverse range of products and services, including AI-powered TVs," said Lee Hun, the executive vice president in charge of global sales and marketing for TVs.
Samsung was also leading in QLED TVs, its flagship premium lineup, with a 46.8 percent market share in terms of sales. By shipment, the company took 10.9 percent of the global market, where a total of 2.75 million units were sold, Omdia said.
In the OLED market, Samsung sold 1.44 million units, taking 27.3 percent share in terms of sales. The company witnessed a sales volume increase of 42 percent and market share increase of 4.6 percentage points on-year.
LG Electronics cemented its presence in the global OLED TV market, maintaining its top spot for 12 consecutive years.

Last year, OLED TVs accounted for 45 percent of shipments in the entire premium TV market -- models priced over $1,500 -- and showed an increase of 8.5 percentage points on-year.
According to LG, this share is expected to surpass the 50 percent threshold this year, to reach 53.8 percent.
The TV maker also took 57.5 percent of shipments in the ultra-large -- 75 inches and above -- OLED TV market, reinforcing its position in the OLED market with its extensive lineup of the high-end TVs. Ultra-large OLED TVs are growing in popularity, and took up a record-high 16 percent of total OLED TV shipments in 2024.
According to Omdia, the total number of TVs shipped in 2024 stood at 288.3 million units up, 3 percent on-year. The total volume of OLED TVs shipped in the year also grew 8 percent on-year to post at 6.07 million units.
