Incheon Global Campus, established in 2012 through a collaboration between the South Korean government and Incheon Metropolitan City, has achieved remarkable growth, according to the school. Starting with just 45 students, enrollment surged to 4,192 in 2024, reflecting a 93-fold increase driven by proactive admissions strategies and international outreach.
Efforts to attract students have paid off, with the campus reporting a 92.6 percent enrollment rate, up from 87.7 percent last fall. Beyond local recruitment, IGC has reached over 10,000 Southeast Asian students and parents through study abroad fairs and school visits. The campus also organized visits for 100 education officials and students from Indonesia, Mongolia and Kazakhstan, bolstering its global appeal.
IGC’s domestic promotional efforts include lighting advertisements in subway stations across South Korea, and plans for video promotions on the Incheon Airport Railroad in 2025.
The campus is not only a hub for education but also a leader in industry-academia collaboration, according to officials. In 2023, IGC’s resident universities executed 64 collaborative projects worth 3.8 billion won. Key initiatives include patent filings in automotive and AR technologies by Stony Brook University Korea and innovative makgeolli packaging designs by Ghent University Global Campus. The University of Utah Asia Campus and George Mason University Korea also contributed to advancements in medical devices and robotics.
IGC graduates are making their mark globally, securing positions at companies like Google, Amazon and Samsung Electronics. Many are pursuing advanced degrees at top institutions, including Johns Hopkins University and ETH Zurich.
Offering world-class education at a fraction of the cost of studying abroad, IGC provides a compelling alternative, saving students and families significant expenses while boosting South Korea’s study abroad balance by 380 billion won annually.
Park Byeong-geun, CEO of the Incheon Global Campus Foundation, emphasized plans to expand IGC’s global presence, aiming to host 10 foreign universities and over 10,000 students, solidifying its position as a premier educational hub.
