Expat art magazine (b)racket is running its first gallery exhibition in Daegu.

The monthly magazine features work by expat artists across Korea and is circulated in the city, and the chance to exhibit some of the magazine’s artwork came through an invitation from a local university.

“We’ve wanted to do something like this for a while now, so when Keimyung University asked us to put a show together we were ecstatic,” said Jess Hinshaw, the magazine’s editor-in-chief.

“Our goal for (b)racket upon its inception was twofold; to help emerging artists share their work with others, and to enhance the art scene in Korea by uniting Koreans and foreigners. These goals are the same things we hope this exhibition will facilitate.”

The work on show includes paintings, screen prints, drawings, digital work, film and sculpture.

“The artists that we chose to represent vary in subject matter and medium,” said Hinshaw. “We want to show how diverse the artists that are featured in (b)racket are.”

An opening reception will be held on Saturday at 5 p.m. with a special performance piece by Luis Arreguin at the beginning of the show.

T-shirts specially printed for the exhibition will be on sale, and back issues of the magazine will be available, Hinshaw said.

The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Sept. 14 at the Black Gallery on the Keimyung University campus near Myeongdok Station.
