Dec. 9, 2019 - 15:24 By Song Su-hyun
Samsung Electronics announced Monday that the company had supplied super-large smart LED signage and interactive touchscreens for MSC Cruises’ flagship Grandiosa, based in Geneva, Switzerland.

A 93-meter-long curved LED display is installed on the ceiling of the global cruise liner’s indoor promenade, its central social hub, providing visual arts at all times at a resolution of 1,700 nits.

The display also showcases visual performances three times a day.

The Grandiosa is the world’s sixth-biggest cruise ship, with room to accommodate 6,334 passengers. It is the latest addition to the MSC Cruises fleet, having set sail for the first time from Italy in November.

Samsung has also provided interactive touchscreens, digital signage and over 2,400 in-cabin TVs for the Grandiosa as part of its longstanding partnership with MSC Cruises. The company had launched the MSC for Me digital ecosystem in 2017 to bring the latest connected cruise experience to its guests.

“We worked together with Samsung to create this core element of the multi-use space, using state-of-the-art technology,” said Luca Pronzati, chief business innovation officer at MSC Cruises. “This helps to create different ambiances and atmospheres throughout the day and night, while also playing a key role in the ship’s entertainment schedule with its range of mesmerizing shows.”
