Culture Minister meets Vatican diplomat to S. Korea

Do Jong-hwan, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism met Friday with Archbishop Alfred Xuereb to discuss exchange and cooperation between South Korea and the Vatican, the ministry said.

According to the ministry officials, the meeting between Do and the Vatican envoy to South Korea was held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul.

“Minister Do showed appreciation for the Vatican‘s efforts toward the peace in the Korean Peninsula, and discussed ways that it and South Korea can collaborate in the future in various fields,” the Culture Ministry said.

The meeting was also for Do to greet the archbishop after he was appointed to the post on May 27.

Xuereb’s formal title is as the apostolic nuncio to South Korea and Mongolia. Prior to his appointment, he served as personal secretary to Benedict XVI and later Pope Francis.
