More than half of surveyed employees in South Korea plan to go on vacation between July and August, and they would probably spend an average of 596,000 won while on holiday, a survey showed Friday.

According to the survey of 1,106 workers conducted by education business institute Hunet, 83.7 percent said they were planning to go on vacation this summer.

The average duration of the vacation came to 4.3 days. Only 14 percent of the surveyed workers said they would be leaving for vacation for seven days or more.

A majority, 63.5 percent, said they were planning to travel within the country for vacation, with the average planned expenses reaching 596,000 won.

Some 25.3 percent said they would be taking overseas trips, while 5.8 percent said they had no specific plans and 2.6 percent said they would use the time on projects for “self-development.”

Of the respondents, 16.3 percent said they would not be going on vacation at all, due to a “lack of finance” or to “use the vacation days during other seasons.” Some also cited excessive work (13.3 percent) or because the company was going through hardship (3.3 percent).
