One police officer was killed and another injured after they were stabbed by a man brandishing a weapon in a residential area of the small southeastern county of Yeongyang on Sunday.

The officers were sent to the scene to cope with the 40-something man, who was reported for rowdiness. They were attacked by the man at around 12:50 p.m.

One of them sustained serious injuries and died while being moved to a nearby hospital on a helicopter. The other policeman was not in critical condition, according to officials.

The assailant was arrested and is currently undergoing an interrogation, the officials said. (Yonhap)
