SCI offers improv course to help you think on your feet

May 29, 2018 - 17:07 By Paul Kerry
Local stage troupe Seoul City Improv is offering an introductory course on improvisational comedy.

The course will take place over four Saturdays in June and July, and cover improv fundamentals to help people develop greater confidence, teamwork and creativity.

“Seoul City Improv decided to offer the Improv 101 course because we wanted to get people excited about improv by introducing them to basic improv tools in a fun and supportive environment,” said Kevin Kowalk, the director of the SCI, who will also be one of the coaches of the course.

“Students will learn how to work as a team, listen effectively, develop characters, among other valuable skills.

“The benefits of learning and performing Improv extend beyond the theater as improvisation skills are used in everyday life.”

Seoul City Improv was founded in 2007 and holds regular shows at the Korea Improv Theater. It also hosts open practices to improvisers of all levels every Sunday from 6-9 p.m. No experience is necessary so don’t be scared; just show up and have fun.

The course involves three-hour afternoon sessions on June 9, 23 and 30 and July 7, with a graduation show on July 14, all at the Korea Improv Theater near Sookmyung Women’s University Station.
