Nov. 10, 2017 - 13:28 By Yonhap

South Korea on Friday denounced a recent ballistic missile attack by Yemen's rebels on Saudi Arabia's capital and called for efforts to help build peace in the Middle East region.

Saudi Arabia said its air force intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels toward King Khalid International Airport, near the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, on Nov. 4.

"The South Korean government is paying attention to the Saudi Arabian government's announcement of the interception and condemns the missile attack, which threatened the safety of civilians and international travel," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The humanitarian situation is worsening in Yemen, with civilian casualties rising as armed conflict continues in the country, according to the ministry.

"The South Korean government urges the all relevant parties in Yemen and its neighboring countries to make efforts to recover peace and stability in Yemen and the Middle East region," the ministry said. (Yonhap)
