iPhone X price for Korean market exceeds predictions

Nov. 1, 2017 - 17:19 By Won Ho-jung
Tech giant Apple announced prices for the iPhone X in Korea on Wednesday, raising eyebrows with the higher-than-expected sticker price.

The iPhone X, the most expensive phone yet in the iPhone series, will cost 1.42 million won ($1,270) for the 64-gigabyte model and 1.63 million won for the 256 GB model. The phone is priced about 300,000 won higher than the iPhone 8, which was released in Korea last month.

The announced prices are significantly higher than iPhone X prices in the US. The 10th-anniversary phone there costs $999 and $1,149 for the 64 GB and 256 GB models, respectively.

Despite the high price tag, iPhone users in Korea are expected to flock to buy the iPhone X, judging by the low preorders for the iPhone 8.

The release date for the iPhone X here has not yet been decided, but industry rumors put the release date sometime between mid-December and Christmas.
