Cosmetics researchers from all over the world will gather in Seoul to discuss convergence and creativity in cosmetic science starting Monday.

The 24th Conference of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists is set to take place from Monday to Wednesday at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas under the theme of “Cosmetic Science: Beauty, Convergence and Creativity.”

This is the second time that the conference, which began in 1960, will take place in Seoul.

Among the Korean companies that are participating in the event is leading cosmetics firm Amorepacific, which is an “Honorable Diamond” sponsor of the conference.

Researchers from the company’s research and development center will be presenting on the technology behind Amorepacific’s cushion products.

At a preconference workshop Monday, Amorepacific researcher Serim Sarah Yoon is to present on “Reshaping the Global Beauty Culture, ‘Endless Innovation of Cushion.’”

On Tuesday, researcher Ko Eun-bi will give a podium presentation on the unique skin properties of Korean women based on a genome-wide association study, and on Wednesday, Gwen Tong of Amorepacific’s R&D Center in Singapore will be giving insights into the characteristics of consumers in ASEAN countries and the new commercial possibilities opened up by cushion technology in the Southeast Asian market.

“The IFSCC Conference held in Seoul is a significant opportunity for us to discuss the future of cosmetics research with experts from all over the world, and to share the research achievements of Amorepacific,” said Han Sang-hoon, head of R&D at Amorepacific.

Amorepacific was the first cosmetics company in Korea to set up a research lab in 1954. Today, the company operates two R&D centers in Korea, as well as research and innovation centers in China, France and Singapore.

Researchers at Amorepacific are working to develop new materials in cosmetics and food; to study the characteristics of consumers in international markets; to understand and create new value for consumers; and create new formulations that will bring about innovation in the cosmetics market.

Presentations at the conference will also include insights into major Korean cosmetics products that have made inroads into the global market such as BB cream and sheet masks. The presenting companies include cosmetic brand operators such as LG Household and Health Care, as well as original development manufacturers Kolmar Korea and Cosmax.

Academic presentations will be given by leading cosmetic chemical experts from companies such as France, Brazil, Japan and Germany.
