South Korea's military court issued a warrant for the arrest of Army Gen. Park Chan-ju accused of receiving bribes from a civilian firm seeking favors in a base-related project during his service as the commanding general of the 2nd Operational Command.
Military prosecutors have investigated his alleged wrongdoings and sought an arrest warrant on Wednesday. But they cited bribery charges, not abuse of power. Park has become the first four-star South Korean general to be arrested since 2004 when then-deputy commander of the South Korea-US Combined Forces Command was arrested on embezzlement charges.
