Budget mobile carriers to sell Galaxy S8

April 3, 2017 - 11:25 By KH디지털2

South Korea's budget mobile carriers plan to receive preorders for Samsung Electronics Co.'s latest flagship, the Galaxy S8 series, industry sources said Monday.

CJ HelloVision's mobile carrier brand Hello Mobile and SK Telink Co. -- the two leading mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) -- said they will start receiving early orders for the new premium smartphones Friday.

MVNOs refer to mobile service providers that rent networks from the country's three carriers: SK Telecom Co., KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp. As they save on network operation costs, MVNOs usually provide users with plans cheaper than those of the major carriers, thus being referred to as "thrift phone operators" in South Korea.

Samsung showcased the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus late last month, which both feature unique displays that bend at both ends, while boasting top-notch technologies, including iris scanners and the smarter voice assistance dubbed Bixby.

South Korea's three mobile carriers also plan to begin preorders starting Friday through April 17. The official sales of the device are slated to begin April 21. (Yonhap)
