BrilliantTS to release all-in-one smart card in first quarter of 2017

Dec. 21, 2016 - 16:04 By Lim Jeong-yeo
BrilliantTS, whose CEO is Bae Jaehun, announced Wednesday that it will be releasing its independently developed B PAY smart card in the first quarter of 2017.

B PAY is an all-in-one, smart payment card service that integrates offline payment and loyalty cards -- including credit cards, debit cards, prepaid cards, transportation cards and various membership cards -- into a single card.

It is equipped with a magnetic strip, integrated circuit chip, Bluetooth, a small e-paper display and a battery, however, it is still the same size and thickness of a regular credit card.

To use the card, the user simply presses the mode and directional buttons in the lower right-hand corner of the card to select the desired payment card.

After looking at the display to confirm that the correct payment card has been selected, the user swipes the card or places it against a card reader. In this way, payment is made and any reward points are collected simultaneously.

The product is currently in the final stage of card reader tests.

To accompany the B PAY card, the company has developed a mobile application called Recommended Card, which allows users to register all of their cards with B PAY. This application shows users a list of nearby stores, restaurants, gas stations and other places of business where discounts are offered for each registered card.

BrilliantTS Manager Lee Geunwoo said, “To maximize user convenience, we have entered all the data of 3,500 credit cards into our system. Connecting credit card companies with stores where those credit cards can be used to get discounts or earn reward points is a great way of promoting rational consumption patterns.”

BrilliantTS has also successfully addressed the security issue inherent in such smart card products. Lee said, “Users can create unique security patterns and passwords or make OTPs (one-time passwords). We ensure complete privacy by immediately erasing all information related to a credit card from our system after it is used.”

BrilliantTS is targeting not only the domestic market but foreign markets as well. The company has made the B PAY card adaptable to the particular conditions of different countries by enabling users to select either the magnetic strip, integrated circuit chip, or both. It has already completed its market research for several regions. BrilliantTS is supported by the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation in its efforts, including marketing, to enter foreign markets.
