Samsung carries out year-end charity work

Samsung Group has been carrying out charity work throughout December, the company said on Tuesday.

Since 1995 Samsung’s management and employees have replaced year-end parties with charity work.

This year, around 52,000 employees from all the affiliates of Samsung Group participated in voluntary activities, visiting community child centers and social welfare centers to deliver daily necessities.

On Dec. 7, the employees from 23 Samsung Group affiliates delivered food, including rice and noodles worth 300 million won ($251,000), to about 6,400 elderly people living alone.

On Dec. 10, around 100 employees from Samsung Electro-mechanics delivered 3,000 briquettes to low-income families living in Suwon. Around 500 employees from Samsung Electronics are also expected to deliver briquettes and heating oil to low-income families living near the company’s plants located in Onyang and Gwangju.

Samsung‘s marketing arm Cheil Industries plans to hold a charity bazaar on Thursday to sell goods donated from its employees and celebrities, alongside items used during commercial shoots. The proceeds will be delivered to rehabilitation centers for the disabled.

Samsung Securities and S1 Corporation plan to replace their year-end ceremonies with charity work on Dec. 26. Around 300 employees from Samsung Securities plan to make cakes to share with regional welfare centers, while 100 employees from S1 Corporation will deliver food to the disabled and elderly.
