Nov. 14, 2016 - 16:36 By Sohn Ji-young
US burger joint Shake Shack will open its second outlet in Cheongdam-dong of Seoul’s Gangnam District, the brand’s South Korean licensee SPC Group said Wednesday.

The upcoming Shake Shack outlet is the second to open in Korea’s capital city, following its its first ever store which opened near Gangnam Station. The new store is expected to ease the long lines that still persist at Shake Shack’s first outlet.

SPC plans to open the new Shake Shack store in Cheongdam-dong within December, with plans to open a third branch in an unspecified location in northern Seoul in the future.

Founded in 2001, Shake Shack is internationally famous for its premium, handmade burgers made with fresh ingredients as well as its side menus such as crinkle-cut fries, frozen custard and milkshakes.

The brand pursues “fine casual dining,” which combines the kind of high-quality ingredients offered by upscale restaurants with the benefits of fast-food such as convenience and low pricing.

SPC, best known for its local bakery chain Paris Baguette, hopes that the success of Shake Shack in Korea will lend a hand in driving up the sales of its dining business to more than 200 billion won ($176 million) by 2025.
