Samsung keeps top spot in US home appliances

Samsung Electronics was the top home appliance maker in the US in the third quarter of this year, with 18.8 percent of market share, the company said Thursday, quoting a study.

According to a US-based market tracker Traqline, Samsung’s market share for consumer electronics grew 2.1 percentage points from the previous three months and 4.2 percentage points from the same quarter last year.

Samsung’s premium refrigerators -- French-door and double-door freezers -- took 21.7 percent of market share, keeping their top position in their respective categories for the third consecutive quarter.

Samsung’s dominance of the high-end refrigerator market continued, with a 40 percent share for products priced over $3,000 and a 72 percent share for freezers priced more than $4,000.

The South Korean electronics giant also become the top seller of washing machines with a 19.7 percent share, the company said, adding it also saw increases in its market share for other segments such as heating ovens, microwaves and dishwashers.
