Hyundai, BMW to recall 45,000 cars

Oct. 28, 2016 - 09:56 By 박윤아
[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor is to recall about 24,000 vehicles sold in South Korea for sunroof-related defects while BMW will recall more than 21,000 cars for the fuel injector and air bag problems, the Transportation Ministry said on Oct. 28.

Hyundai Motor is recalling certain model years of the LF Sonata sedan. In some vehicles the panorama sunroof could detach due to a loose wind reflector, possibly causing accidents.

The recall affects 23,980 Sonata LF and Sonata LF Hybrid cars produced between March 3, 2014, and Aug. 18, 2015. Free repair services will be available from Oct. 31 at any Hyundai service center throughout the country, the ministry said in a press release.

Some vehicles imported and distributed by BMW Korea may lose power even when driving due to a manufacturing defect in the fuel injector.

The recall affects 20,957 cars of 17 vehicle models, including the BMW 520d and the X6 xDrive50i, produced between Dec. 11, 2006 and June 30, 2011.

An additional 124 cars of five BMW models produced between May 13, 2014, and June 19, 2014, will be recalled for a defective airbag inflator that could break and shoot at the driver and passengers when the airbag deploys in a crash.

BMW Korea is also recalling 67 vehicles of four vehicle models for issues related to the cars’ drive shaft and rear wheel axle.
