HANMI Semiconductor launches R&D center for chip manufacturing equipment

Aug. 25, 2016 - 15:38 By 김영원
[THE INVESTOR] HANMI Semiconductor said Aug. 25 it has established a research and development center to develop laser equipment used in manufacturing chips.

“In order to meet the increasing demand for the laser equipment for chip manufacturing, HANMI Semiconductor will roll out a wide range of manufacturing devices by beefing up its R&D capability and hiring more talent,” said Kim Min-hyeon, the chief executive of the chipmaker.

Laser-based chip manufacturing devices are in high demand thanks to the increasing deployment of flexible organic light-emitting diode displays in the global tech sector. The OLED production requires fine chip manufacturing technology like the laser-based manufacturing devices.

Founded in 1980, the Korean company has been supplying chip equipment for 270 global partners. It was named a global top 10 chip equipment manufacturing firms by global market research firm VLSI this year.
