[THE INVESTOR] Overnight gains on Wall Street led South Korean shares to open slightly higher Aug. 24.
The benchmark KOSPI added 1.44 points, or 0.07 percent, to 2,051.37 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
The slight increase followed overnight gains on Wall Street.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 0.1 percent to 18,547.3, with the tech-laden NASDAQ advancing 0.3 percent to 5,260.08.
Large caps traded mixed, while market behemoth Samsung Electronics slipped 0.47 percent, one day after climbing to a record high of 1,687,000 won.
Leading auto parts-maker Hyundai Mobis plunged 2.38 percent, while top automaker Hyundai Motor remained flat.
Global steelmaker POSCO spiked 2.53 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,122.4 won against the US dollar, weakening 6.8 won from Tuesday’s close.
