Aug. 23, 2016 - 16:39 By 김화균
[THE INVESTOR] Lumens LED, a Korea-based light-emitting diode producer, said Aug. 23 that its new Vietnam plant recently started production.

The 20 billion won (US$17.9 million) plant, located on a site of 33,057 square meters in Ho Chi Minh City, is expected to help the company improve cost competitiveness overall, it said.

“While our Chinese plant is serving mostly the local market, the Vietnamese branch will be responsible for supplies to Korea and overseas markets,” said a company official.

The company produces LED packages and modules that are used for displays, cars and lighting. Almost 90 percent of LED packages are produced in China, with 10 percent being produced in Korea.

The company plans to produce 20 to 30 percent of LED modules in Vietnam, where production plants of key clients such as Samsung Electronics are located.
