CJ HelloVision, the nation’s No. 1 cable TV operator, said on Aug. 17 it has named Byun Dong-sik, senior vice president and chief of management support, as the company’s new co-CEO.
The 56-year-old previously served as the company’s CEO between 2008 and 2013.
After its failed attempt to merge with
SK Telecom in July, CJ HelloVision is seeking to breathe fresh air into the company. Byun will lead the firm together with current CEO Kim Jin-seok.

Byun joined CJ HelloVision in 2005 and served in several positions. He later took over the helm of
CJ O Shopping, the home shopping channel affiliate of CJ Group, for two years in 2013.
In the April-June period, the company’s operating profit fell 12.51 percent to 24 billion won (US$21.7 million). Net profit also plunged 27.93 percent to 14.9 billion won.
