Naver’s online map adds real-time traffic info

Aug. 17, 2016 - 13:29 By 박윤아
[THE INVESTOR] Naver, the top web portal in Korea, is set to launch an improved map service to help users get to their destinations faster, company and government officials said Aug. 17.

The National Transport Information Center will begin providing its traffic information to Naver, which in turn will use the information to provide online map and mobile navigation services that will offer the currently best available routes to destinations, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on Aug. 17 between the ministry and local portal operator that boasts over 10 million daily visitors.

Naver and many others already offer such services, but the real-time information from the state-run center will allow it to provide the most up-to-date traffic information.

“The government will continue to expand its cooperation with private firms to develop and provide better traffic information services to the people,” the ministry said in a press release.
