Shin and Choi were members of the silver medal-winning team at the 2012 London Olympics, but they played just one match before packing.
Shin, Choi and Kang also failed to win a medal earlier in the individual competition.
The defeat ends South Korea's fencing medal winning streak at two days. Park Sang-young won the men's individual epee gold on Tuesday and Kim Jung-hwan followed it up with bronze in the men's individual sabre Wednesday. (Yonhap)
