Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and a visiting U.S. House lawmaker reaffirmed Monday that the alliance between Seoul and Washington will remain firm, Seoul's foreign ministry said.

"The S. Korea-U.S. alliance remains firm more now than at any other time amid growing threats such as missiles and nukes," Yun said during a meeting with Rep. John B. Larson (D-CT).

Yun also expressed the hope that the two countries would further strengthen ties in a comprehensive way, according to the ministry.

The ministry said that Larson stressed that the U.S. government and Congress will firmly support the alliance no matter who is elected as the next president.

The U.S. lawmaker, who is visiting Seoul at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the free trade agreement between two countries greatly helps the American economy.

In return, Yun expressed hope that Larson, who will be visiting the Demilitarized Zone later, will be able to confirm the military readiness of the two countries, the ministry said. (Yonhap)
