A caretaker at nursery in Seoul was indicted for habitual abuse of children under her care, Dongbu District Prosecutors said Tuesday.

Shin allegedly used her hands, a wooden stick, toys and a food tray to hit the children who did not follow her instructions to take a nap or have a meal.

She was reported to the police by a parent who discovered a bruise on a victim’s body.

Prosecutors so far have determined Shin was guilty of 217 counts of abuse.

According to the prosecutors, Shin initially did not acknowledge her actions to be child abuse but is now showing signs of repentance.

Shin had worked at the daycare center for 4 years and 5 months.

It is not known whether she hit other children during the term she worked at the establishment.

The facility’s director, 50-year-old surnamed Yang, claimed he had no knowledge of Shin’s actions. Yang was indicted without detention for lax management that allowed for the misdemeanor to take place.
