June 21, 2016 - 14:38 By Korea Herald
Jung Yong-hwa of rock band CNBLUE received an exceptional birthday present from Chinese social network service Weibo, the artist’s agency FNC Entertainment announced Tuesday.

Weibo has been holding a monthlong event to celebrate Jung’s June 22 birthday, starting with “My Student Jung Yong-hwa” on June 6. During the event period, Weibo users have been teaching Chinese language and culture to Jung.

On June 12, Weibo also launched a Jung Yong-hwa online birthday sticker designed by the singer, with which users can decorate photos.

It marks the first time that Weibo has held such long-term and grand-scale promotions for a non-Chinese star, said the agency.

“Jung Yong-hwa has actively interacted with Chinese fans, presenting positive energy through his singing and acting career in China. As such we prepared the special event in celebration of his birthday,” explained Weibo in a press release issued by the agency.

Jung previously topped the Gaon Weibo Chart for 68 weeks straight starting from November 2014. Elle China also featured Jung on the cover of its March edition, making him the first Korean male star to be featured. Jung also became the first non-Chinese model for Chinese public campaign “Power To Go.”
