Actor Namgoong Min, best known as the villain in "Remember -- War of the Son," might prefer if audiences forgot the popular series from earlier this year because he is making a "180-degree turn" in his upcoming TV series.
The man, whose portrayal of the rich, conniving Nam Kyu-man made him one of South Korea's best villain actors, is playing a saintly lawyer in "Beautiful Gong Shim," an SBS romantic comedy premiering this weekend.
"It felt awkward sitting on the lawyer's side of the courtroom, not the defendant's, when we were filming a scene the other day," he said at a press conference at SBS headquarters here on Thursday.
"But it's so much fun trying to be this character. It's a brand new challenge because I have to be more upbeat and jovial than in the previous show."
In the Saturday-Sunday night series, lawyer Ahn Dan-te (Namgoong) provides pro bono legal consulting to those who cannot afford it and makes a living chauffeuring drunkards at night. He moves to a rooftop room owned by two sisters whose looks and personalities could not be any more different.
Minah of the girl group Girl's Day plays Gongshim, who seems to have inherited all the less desirable traits from her parents, and actress Seo Hyo-rim stars as Gongmi, the "smart and prettier one" of the two sisters.
"Beautiful Gong Shim" premieres on SBS at 9:55 p.m Saturday. (Yonhap)
