Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, Korea's leading automakers, are recalling a combined 14,926 passenger cars for problems with their steering and lighting systems, the transport ministry said Monday.

Hyundai's YF Sonata and Kia's K5 mid-sized sedans were found to have glitches in the electronic control unit of the steering system that could lead to a short circuit when it's raining, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The problem has been detected in 7,794 YF Sonatas produced between Jan. 19, 2010, and July 8, 2010, and 11,681 K5 sedans manufactured between May 3, 2010, and July 8, 2010.

Free repair services will be available starting Monday at Hyundai and Kia service centers throughout the country.

The ministry also said Kia is recalling 9,479 K7 luxury sedans produced between March 8, 2012, and Jan. 12, 2016, for lightening system errors.

Owners of the vehicles can receive free repair services at Kia's garages starting April 25. (Yonhap)
