The average annual paycheck of Samsung Electronics Co.'s employees and executives hovered above 100 million won ($87,489) in 2015 for the third consecutive year, data showed Thursday.

According to the latest data compiled by the South Korean tech giant, its 95,652 employees and executives raked in 101 million won on average last year, slightly lower than the 102 million won posted in 2014.

Male employees, which make up 68 percent of the entire workforce, made 110 million won on average, while their female counterparts took home 75 million won.

In related data, Samsung said the number of its employees declined from 96,510 in 2014 to 95,652 at the end of last year, apparently due to its sluggish operating profits.

In 2015, Samsung's net profit shed 18.53 percent to 19 trillion won. Its operating profit came to 26.4 trillion won, up 5.55 percent from the previous year, but sales dropped 2.69 percent to 200.6 trillion won.

Other top South Korean listed companies also gave out generous paychecks despite the prolonged economic slump.

The average annual salary of executives and employees at Kia Motors Corp. came to 97 million won last year, marking the first time in five years for the second-largest Korean automaker to outpace that of its bigger sister Hyundai Motor Co. Hyundai Motor reported a corresponding figure of 96 million won in 2015.

The average paycheck of male workers at Kia Motors reached 98 million won last year, hovering far above the 75 million won posted by their female counterparts.

On the other hand, the number of Hyundai Motor employees rose from 60,827 in 2014 to 66,404 in late 2015, while Kia's workforce increased from 33,255 in 2013 to 34,121 last year. Altogether, the combined number of employees at Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors stood at 100,525 at the end of last year, topping the 100,000 mark for the first time.  (Yonhap)
