Seoul stocks open lower on large cap losses

South Korean share prices opened lower Thursday on losses in large cap shares.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index slipped 5.93 points, or 0.30 percent, to 1,989.19 in the first 15 minutes of trading. As of 10:40 a.m., the index was trading half a percent lower at 1983.26.

The decline followed overnight losses in the U.S. The Dow Jones industrial average inched down 0.45 percent to 17,502.59, while the tech-laden Nasdaq shed 1.10 percent to 4,768.86.

Most large caps including Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor was in negative territory.
