Korean shares open higher on Wall Street gains

Korean stocks opened higher, taking a cue from gains on Wall Street and extending their winning streak to a fourth consecutive session.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 3.75 points or 0.19 percent to 1,995.87 in the first 15 minutes of trading.


The rally followed gains on Wall Street last week.

On Friday, the Dow Jones industrial average added 0.69 percent to close at 17,602.30 with the tech-laden Nasdaq gaining 0.43 percent to 4,695.65.

In Seoul, large caps traded mixed while market bellwether Samsung Electronics gained 0.16 percent.

Local industry leader Hyundai Motor shed 0.33 percent while its smaller affiliate added 1.05 percent.

Cosmetics giant Amore Pacific shed 0.63 percent, while its rival LG Chem spiked 1.27 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,166.65 won against the U.S. dollar, down 4.15 won from Friday's close. (Yonhap)
