S.M. Entertainment tops music sales in Q4

March 7, 2016 - 15:50 By KH디지털1

S.M. Entertainment, the country's largest star label by market capital, was dubbed the No. 1 seller of digital music in the fourth quarter of 2015, a local music chart operator said on Monday.

In the October-December period of last year, the South Korean entertainment agency held 11.4 percent of the local music market, according to a column by Kim Jin-woo, the senior analyst of Gaon, a music chart run by the Korea Music Contents Industry Association.

This is the highest number of all labels over the cited period.

The performance is mostly attributed to the fat sales of "I," the first solo EP by Taeyeon from girl group Girls' Generation.

Another big contributor to the quarterly performance was "4 Wall," a full-length album by f(x), another girl group. Both albums were released in October.

S.M. also turned out to be the top seller of music albums over the same period, thanks to the sales jackpot of "Sing For You," a special winter album by boy band EXO.

EXO's albums swept the top four slots in Gaon's annual album sales chart for 2015. (Yonhap)
