EXO Suho makes screen debut

Feb. 24, 2016 - 15:32 By KH디지털2
Boy group EXO’s leader Suho is making his big screen debut under the name Kim Joon-myun in the film “One Way Trip.”

Suho will be playing Sang-woo, one of four friends who take off on a trip together to the beach but run into difficulties and must work together.

“I play Sang-woo, a guy who is raised by his grandmother, and lives in very difficult conditions,” Kim told reporters at a press conference for “One Day Trip” on Wednesday. “Because of his hardships, he gives up going to college and decides to join the military. He goes through a lot of internal struggle at a young age.”

The role is quite heavy for a debut, and Kim said that he felt he had to “maintain a different line of emotion” from the other actors because of his character’s harsh circumstances.

“Sang-woo has to go to the military, and he has to leave his grandmother behind by herself. So even when he’s on a trip with his friends, he can’t completely enjoy himself,” he said.

“There wasn’t a particular scene or line that I practiced more than others, but I just want to say that I thought of the overall emotional tone while I was acting.”

Kim’s film will come on the heels of another film featuring an EXO member, D.O (who uses the name Doh Kyung-soo when acting). Doh’s romance film “Unforgettable” is currently playing in theaters.

When asked if Doh, who made his debut first, gave him any acting advice, Kim said, “We watch a lot of movies together. He knows that I also majored in acting, so he didn’t necessarily give me any advice.”

Kim studied acting at the Korea National University of Arts.

According to Kim, Doh would just ask him things like how filming was going, or give him support by saying things like, “I believe in you!”

“One Way Trip” directed by Choi Jeong-yeol and featuring Ji Soo, Kim Joon-myun, Ryu Jun-yeol and Kim Hee-chan opens on March 24.
