POSCO filed a defamation lawsuit against a former senior company official Monday, a rare move by the nation‘s top steelmaker stressing family values in its corporate culture.

Jeong Min-woo, former leader of external relations who was in charge of dealing with government affairs, has organized a one-person demonstration with a picket reading “Dear President, Save POSCO’’ near the presidential residence in central Seoul, since Feb. 5.

Jeong, 44, has berated the company’s top management and executives, claiming that they are incompetent and dependent on the political influence in coping with management issues. She has called for a management reshuffle to save the “falling” steelmaking group. Last year, POSCO fell into the red for the first time in its history.

POSCO accused her of marring their corporate image by spreading ”groundless“ rumors via news organizations or social media.

“Her action is not helpful for the company to seek restructuring and to bring changes and innovations to the organization,’’ the company said in a statement.
