Seoul government to assist foreign community cultural events

Feb. 3, 2016 - 18:19 By Korea Herald
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced it will continue to support its foreign community members by offering financial assistance for related activities.

Subsidies will be offered for cultural events hosted by embassies and expat communities in 2016 for the eighth consecutive year, it said.

Subsidies can cover up to 80 percent of total expenses for events, up to a maximum of 6 million won ($4,900).

The government has reached out to a number of foreign communities through the support program since 2008. It has funded events including the Ramadan and Eid Festival, the Nepal Korea Friendship Day and the Second Global Village Festival.

It sponsored 22 events in 2015 with total support funding of 105 million won. The events ranged from foreign cultural festivals to sports festivals and concerts.

The amount for each event varies according to size. Each grant will be paid 30 days after the event.

The details of the event must be explained in the application form. Applications can be made from Feb. 11 to Feb. 19 through the Multiculturalism Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government or at happygoods@seoul.go.kr. More information is available at global.seoul.go.kr.
