LG Electronics on Tuesday unveiled online its first-ever Super Bowl ad, featuring actor Liam Neeson as a “mysterious man from the future.”
The 60-second commercial, which will air during the Feb. 7 Super Bowl matchup on CBS, aims to promote the company’s flagship organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, TV.

In the ad, produced by the famous father-son team of Ridley and Jake Scott, Neeson travels to present day to help his younger self -- played by the actor’s real-life son Michael Neeson -- introduce the new era of OLED TVs to the public.
“The future belongs to us,” Neeson says in the commercial.
LG is one of several brands spending huge for their big game spot. Industry watchers say advertisers are paying as much as $5 million for 30 seconds of airtime during the event.
LG didn’t specify how much it paid for its first-ever Super Bowl commercial. The Korean tech giant has spent almost $130 million every year for its promotional activities in the U.S. in recent years.
“Through the largest sports event in the U.S., we will convey the true value of our OLED TVs,” LG’s home entertainment business division chief Kwon Bong-seok said in a statement.
The ad has already gotten positive response from viewers around the world, the company said. It was recently named one of the top 10 celebrity Super Bowl teasers by the Associated Press, while the YouTube clip has hit more than 5 million views.
