The institute, which analyzes local corporate data, found that a total of 82 officials from the owner families fell within this target group.

Among them, 33, or 40.2 percent, hold a bachelor’s degree from foreign universities, including Hanwha Q Cells executive director Kim Dong-kwan (Harvard University), Shinsegae Group vice chairman Chung Yong-jin (Brown University) and Hyosung Group president Cho Hyun-joon (Yale University).

When including those who have received a master’s or higher degrees from universities overseas, the number of conglomerate family businessmen who are foreign university graduates rose to 52, or 63.4 percent, the institute found.

In terms of the largest number of graduates from a single university, Yonsei University topped the list with 10 people, followed by Seoul National University at 8 and Korea University, Sogang University and Ewha Womans University at 3 each.
