Police pick 'Veteran' as best film

Nov. 29, 2015 - 10:08 By KH디지털2
Police officers in South Korea have chosen "Veteran" as the best movie of the year, a survey showed Sunday.

The domestic action film directed by Ryoo Seung-wan drew 1,753 votes in the poll joined by 2,104 police officers. The poll was conducted by the Police Training Institute through its internal online communication network from Nov. 9-25.

"Veteran" features a veteran detective who stands up to an arrogant and spoiled heir of a family-owned conglomerate as he investigates the mysterious death of a truck driver.

Starring Hwang Jung-min and Jang Yoon-ju, it was watched by more than 12 million people in South Korea. It has gained popularity abroad as well.

In the survey, Hwang and Jang were picked as the best-performing actor and actress, respectively, for their roles as police officers.

In last year's poll, ironically, Ryoo's 2010 movie "The Unjust" was selected as one of the worst movies ever here. It's about deep-rooted corruption in the nation's law-enforcement system. (Yonhap)
