Kia Motors to recall 6,500 Soul hatchbacks to fix steering wheel issue

Nov. 22, 2015 - 13:14 By KH디지털2

Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest automaker, will recall over 6,500 Soul box-type cars due to a problem in the steering system that could cause excessive noise and possible loss of steering, the transportation ministry said Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, a bolt securing the pinion gear to the steering gear may become loose due to improper application of adhesives during the manufacturers' assembly process, possibly causing loss of steering.

The recalled vehicles were produced between July 2014 and January.

The carmaker is expected to recall some 280,000 units of the car in North America due to the same issue.

Meanwhile, the ministry said some 1,200 Peugeot and Citroen cars are also being recalled due to a fuel leak that could cause the engine to stop, which could result in a crash.

The recalled vehicles are the Peugeot 3008 2.0 HDi, the Peugeot 308cc 2.0 HDi, the Peugeot 508 2.0 HDi, the Peugeot 508 sw 2.0 HD, the Peugeot Expert tepee 2.0 HDi, the Citroen DS4 2.0 HDi and the Citroen DS5 2.0 HDi, which were sold by Hanbul Motors Corp., the local importer and distributor of Peugeot and Citroen cars, the ministry said in a press release.
