Philips Korea, the local branch of leading Dutch health care and lighting company Philips, has appointed Peter Kwak, former country manager of Nike Korea, as general manager of its personal health division.

Kwak, who worked at the footwear firm for 12 years and as CEO of its Korea arm since 2009, is a seasoned businessman in the fast-moving consumer goods industry, having led Nike Korea to double its revenue under his leadership, Philips noted. He previously worked at McKinsey & Company in Chicago.

Philips decided on the new appointment on the grounds that “Kwak could strengthen its personal health business through his insights in the consumer industry and strategic leadership,” according to a company statement.

“With Kwak’s deep understanding of Western and Asian cultures as well as his experiences in the FMCG industry and multinational companies, Philips Korea is looking ahead to fulfill the rapidly changing needs of our consumers and leap forward as a health and well-being company,” said Philips Korea CEO Dominique Oh.

The former Nike Korea CEO earned an MBA from the University of Chicago after graduating from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and Yonsei University’s Graduate School of International Studies in Korea.
