Lenovo to open service center in Korea

Oct. 30, 2015 - 10:46 By KH디지털2
Chinese electronics giant Lenovo Group said Friday it will open a service center in South Korea as part of its efforts to expand its market presence here.

Lenovo said the center, which will open on Monday, aims to provide customers with faster and better service. Currently, Lenovo's China-based service centers provide support to South Korean users.

It will mark the first time Lenovo has opened a service center outside China in the Asia-Pacific region.

Chinese companies have been rushing to tap into the South Korean electronics market on the back of their price competitiveness and narrowed technology gap with local players.

Chinese tech brands such as Lenovo have emerged as a potential threat for South Korean tech giants such as Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc.

Earlier this month, Lenovo commenced sales of the 6.8-inch Phab Plus smartphone in South Korea with a price tag of 399,000 won ($350), marking the first handset it has released in the country.
